Our fishing season at the Kiklukh Lodge runs from late August through the middle of October. Our trips run from Friday to Friday. The Kiklukh River surrenders to an annual run of silver salmon, somewhere in the nature of 20,000 fish. This specific strain of Coho along the North Gulf Coast is larger in average than the Coho in southwest or western Alaska. Coho on the Kiklukh average twelve pounds, with many fish taken during a week’s fishing between thirteen to eighteen pounds. Each year several fish in the twenty-pound category are caught and released. The unofficial lodge record was a weighed, fly-caught chromer that tipped the sales at twenty-two pounds and four ounces.
Fishing licenses can be purchased at the lodge or purchased on-line from Alaska Game and Fish. A seven-day license costs $55.00.
Kiklukh Lodge's fishing regulations are managed by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Kiklukh Lodge falls under the Yakutat Management area, it's important to know the bag and possession limits for each fish species. The bag limit is the maximum legal take per person per day, including any fish immediately preserved, and a landed fish becomes part of the angler's bag limit. The possession limit is the maximum number of unpreserved fish, except halibut, a person may have in their possession. We preserve your catch onsite. Coho Salmon bag limit varies based on length, with 4 per day for fish 16 inches or longer (fresh water), 6 per day for fish 16 inches or longer (salt water), and 10 per day for fish less than 16 inches. The possession limit is 8 over16 inches and 10 under 16 inches, (12 over 16 inches-salt water) respectively. Steelhead has a bag limit of 1 fish per day, must be 36 inches or longer, with a possession limit of 2, a 2 fish annual limit with harvest record is required. Cutthroat/Rainbow Trout have a 2 fish per day bag limit with a possession limit of 2, and a size restriction of 11-22 inches. The limit is combined, not each. Kiklukh Lodge offers cleaning, flash freezing, and boxing services for your catch, and there's always a sample batch of salmon in the smokehouse to try while at the lodge. So rest assured, you're going home with a lot of fish!
